Who is eligible?

Graduate students at the University of Arizona who are enrolled full time in both Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 in any college or discipline.

When are applications due?

All application materials are due by October 15, 2019 (11:59 pm local Arizona time).

What are the application evaluation criteria?

Applicants will be selected based on the strength of their individual statements with preference given to enhancing the overall diversity of the cohort and interest in fellowship projects whose outcomes will serve the needs of the broader University of Arizona community.

When will decisions be made?

All applicants will be notified by November 30, 2019. Selected applicants may be contacted for 20-minute Zoom interviews during the review period.

What kind of projects are appropriate to propose?

We welcome applications that address any aspect of digital scholarship or data science, including projects focused on tools, methods, or techniques. Some potential areas for exploration could include:

What do I get by participating?

Support for building technical skills related to your research and opportunities to apply instructional design and digital pedagogy by creating and delivering new workshop content.

What does the University of Arizona get?

An opportunity to activate a multidisciplinary network of graduate students engaged in digital scholarship or data science, and a suite of instructional materials that can be reused and integrated into future instruction and training.

What is the expected time commitment?

The program runs January 2020 through December 2020 and includes weekly meetings on Friday afternoons while classes are in session, as well as self-directed learning time, with an estimated commitment of approximately 4 hours per week during the regular semester.

What if I am just starting my graduate work?

Great! If there is some technology or software that you would like to learn in order to pursue potential research avenues, and you are interested in sharing that knowledge with the rest of the UA community, then this program is for you.

Will you sponsor group projects?

The fellowship program is designed to support individual graduate students. That said, fellows will not be required to work alone on developing training materials.

What is the stipend?

The stipend is $1,500 total, disbursed in two installments through students’ bursar accounts.
